Jewels in the Crown awards were first given at the 2010 Women’s League Convention in Baltimore, MD. Lisa Kogen, Education Director chose the name since our sisterhoods are the Jewels in our crown. We had always given awards to individuals who very few of the members knew. The Jewels in the Crown awards were created to make sisterhoods feel more valued and to honor them. It was a way to motivate their members to come to convention to receive their award as well as to showcase programs and encourage our sisterhoods to replicate them.
