A League of Our Own
Women’s League for Conservative Judaism
A Century of Learning, Creativity, Activism and Sister-hood
A 4-part zoom series!
Presented by Lisa Ellison (Kogen)
WLCJ Director of Education and Programs 2003-2017
As we look back on one hundred plus years of Women’s League history, we will examine its important organizational milestones, its challenges and successes, innovations, resources and publications, cultural creativity, social activism, political advocacy and tumultuous religious change.
In the early decades of the twentieth century, many of our leaders were like rabbis. By the end of the century, they were rabbis. Women’s Leaguers were not mere sideline spectators, but an armed battalion of active, engaged and deeply committed participants.
Part 2 – Publish or Perish
A Century of Women’s League Printed Materials and Publications
An exploration of how materials reflected both the commitment to Women’s League’s mission and changing historical and social contexts.
From the beginning, Women’s League’s focus on the education of its members was dependent on providing suitable and user-friendly resources, importantly printed materials. These materials evolved from the earliest days of Prayer and Blessings cards, The Three Pillars and The Jewish Home Beautiful to the very contemporary Sisterhood Planner, Eytz Hayim He: The Adult Bat Mitzvah Curriculum, and The Hiddur Mitzvah Project.
