Virtual Candle Lighting

We invite all of our members to join us for a virtual lighting on the evening of Monday, December 14, at 7:00 pm EST. We invite you to join us via Zoom link provided.

After candle lighting, author Judy Petsonk joins us to explore her new historical novel JUSTICE: MACCABEES AND PHARISEES. 

What happened when the Maccabees became kings? How did Jews begin the transition from a religion of animal sacrifice to being the People of the Book? How did the women of Judea in the first century BCE take the first small steps toward legal rights for women? Judy tells the story through the strong voice of a fictional narrator, Sarah, wife of the leading Pharisee, Shimon ben Shetakh (a historical figure cited in the Mishna). Sarah paints a vivid picture of the lives of women in ancient Judea.
