March 17 Message

“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” – Benjamin Franklin

Shabbat Shalom!

There have been times, when speaking with a sisterhood member or sisterhood president, that they ask me, “why Women’s League?” They ask, what are the benefits, or they say that there is no value in being a part of WLCJ.

My first response, is typically, do you get our eblasts? Do you open and read your region Shabbat newsletter? Do you go on our website? And, then, of course, I may get a response as, we are a strong sisterhood, we are doing just fine without all of that!

My second response, is yes, that is our goal, but we an alway learn something new, that being part of our network or Conservative Jewish women, enables each of us to learn from one another, to always stretch to be a bit better than we were. That being taking the time to take advantage of all that we have, ensures that you and your sisterhood will always be going in the right direction.

And, my third response is that by networking, what you learn can come back to you personally and for your sisterhood tenfold. And, then there is the ripple effect…you know, you hear something, you think about it, and then it goes flying out of your head, until possibly a year or two later when it comes floating back to the surface and you recall learning about a new idea, or new book to read, or whatever!!

WLCJ is all about investing in knowledge, not only for our sisterhoods but for each and every one of our members. WLReads affords everyone to be a part of a book club, from the comfort of your home! You can then listen with your own book group from your sisterhood, when Lisa Kogan, our Education Director interviews the author, talk about an investment in knowledge!

Or taking 30 minutes a week, to sit with a cup of tea, coffee or a bowl of ice cream…and surf our website! Again, taking the time to learn something new…will be an investment in your Jewish knowledge or something for your sisterhood. Or take three minutes after reading our Shabbat message this morning, and load or re-install our WLCJ App. It was updated just last week, to include Convention and the latest edition of “The New Outlook”. Both are truly an investment in learning something new.

I sincerely hope that each of you, will share all that you have learned so that not only you, but your “sisters” around you, take the time to learn and invest in you and your sisterhoods.

Wishing each of you a sweet and peaceful Shabbat, and to those in the north….a warm and safe Shabbat!

Shabbat Shalom,
Carol
