“Be thankful for what you have, you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” – Oprah Winfrey
Shabbat Shalom!
This is the Shabbat, in the states before Thanksgiving! Many of us have already begun to bake, cook and shop…well maybe not in that order! But we are preparing to welcome family to our homes or travel to family across the country. As I was looking for a quote this morning…I knew that it had to be more than just about our holiday…as our sisters in Canada, Mexico and Israel need to be included…I needed to find a simple quote about being thankful because we can and should do that every day, not just on a holiday.
This quote spoke to me! On a very personal note…I had a wonderful aunt, she was my father’s eldest sister. Growing up we live in the same apartment building and in later years she lived near us in Florida and she was another grandmother to our children. She taught me that you need to be grateful for whatever comes your way…when a grandchild called for 5 minutes she was grateful, not complaining that she wanted more time on the phone. If you could only visit for a short time, she always thanked you for the time you sent with her. She taught me acceptance and she taught me to be thankful.
I think that if we each take these words to heart…that we need to be thankful for what we have…whether that is a smaller attendance at an event, fewer volunteers showing up for a work session or a meeting, or any situation…because we need to concentrate on those that come, that those that volunteer. Show your gratitude for that…don’t think that those that did not come, that is a waste of your energy and we need that energy channeled into those that are there.
Wishing each of you a sweet and meaningful Shabbat…and for my “sisters” celebrating Thanksgiving next week..safe travels, have fun and enjoy those around your tables.
B’Shalom,
Carol
