 can music and especially American musical theater. This truly American art
  form attracted the talents of the greatest songwriters of the pre-rock er
 a who between them wrote the musical and lyrics for practically all the gr
 eat musicals of the ’30s and ’40s.\n&nbsp\;\nJerome Kern\, Irving Berl
 in\, George and Ira Gershwin\, Oscar Hammerstein\, Richard Rodgers\, Loren
 z Hart\, Cole Porter\, Harold Arlen\, Yip Harburg\, Alan Jay Lerner\, and 
 Frederick Loewe shaped American musical theater.&nbsp\;With the exception 
 of Cole Porter\, all these were Jewish.\n&nbsp\;\nUsing video clips and Po
 werpoint\, this class will explore the musical films created by Jewish com
 posers and directors during the 1930s from the early talkies to the early 
 1940s. The Yiddish musical film will also be explored.\n&nbsp\;\n\nFREE re
