This truly American art form attracted the talents of the greatest songwriters of the pre-rock er a who between them wrote the musical and lyrics for practically all the gr eat musicals of the ’30s and ’40s.\n \;\nJerome Kern\, Irving Berl in\, George and Ira Gershwin\, Oscar Hammerstein\, Richard Rodgers\, Loren z Hart\, Cole Porter\, Harold Arlen\, Yip Harburg\, Alan Jay Lerner\, and Frederick Loewe shaped American musical theater. \;With the exception of Cole Porter\, all these were Jewish.\n \;\nUsing video clips and Po werpoint\, this \;class \;will explore the musical \;films&nbs p\;created by Jewish composers and directors during the 1930s from the ear ly talkies to the early 1940s.
