January 6 Message

“When you have confidence, you can have a lot of fun. And when you have fun, you can do amazing things.” – Joe Namath

Shabbat Shalom!

Chanukah and our secular New Year celebrations…are but a sweet memory! And, as January is now upon us..so to are many Women’s League (Sisterhood) Shabbat celebrations!

Someone once asked me, why do we still celebrate “Sisterhood Shabbat”, since today, most Shabbat services include the women. My response was that it is a time, set aside to celebrate what the women in your synagogue do for you…. for the women and for the entire synagogue community. It is also a time to ask those that do not regularly participate in a Shabbat morning service, to do so. It is a time to give all of our members the confidence to participate, by doing something out of their comfort zone..or just to be a part of the acknowledgement that they are a part of their sisterhood.

Personally, I just love watching the women participate…the joy of belonging, the joy of praying together, and happiness that I see…and the hugging and kissing! And, at the conclusion…the smiles! Though it takes time to put it all together, asking your “sisters” to take a part, the practicing on those reading torah or doing the haftorah..yet in the end that smiles…that it was simply a “labor of love”…that together each sisterhood shabbat…can produce amazing things!

And, my wish, for each of you, is to take that “feeling”…and spread the joy that you feel when you do something well…and keep it with you, all year long!

Wishing each of you a sweet and meaningful Shabbat,
Carol
