“Because there’s one thing stronger than magic: sisterhood.” – Robin Fenway, The Extraordinary Secrets of April

Shabbat Shalom!

I must admit, that I am quite focused on “sisterhood”! However, I am sure that does not surprise any of you!

Yet, it is not only because of this fabulous “gig” that I have had since July, 2014…but because of what “sisterhood” it has brought to my life.

I have been so fortunate as to have made true friends across North America and beyond! Women that I have worked with on a project, that then goes on way after our work has ended. Women that I never would have had the opportunity to meet, get to know, or to connect in any way because without “sisterhood” our paths would never have crossed.

And because of “sisterhood” I have learned to speak in front of a group without getting nervous; I have learned how to be a better leader (everyday); I have learned to be a diplomat (even when I really did not want to be); I have learned to expand my skills in prayer and Jewish study; I have learned how to listen and not talk so that I can really hear what is being said; I have learned to ask people to take a position (and sometimes even beg a little); I have learned to be thankful for all of the wonderful volunteers that I have met in our regions, our sisterhoods and in the Jewish world at large.

As this Shabbat, is our “official” WLCJ Shabbat…and we will be reading Shemot…a parsha about names and stories about strong women…my wish is for each of you to gain as much as I have because years ago I took the opportunity to become involved in my sisterhood…which led me to meet the women in my region…which took me down a path to where I am today…the magic of sisterhood….I would love to sprinkle that “magic” over every woman that is a part of the Conservative Movement.

Please help me share sisterhood…please help me share that magic!

Wishing each of you a very meaningful Shabbat..and to those that are celebrating their Sisterhood Shabbat…a very beautiful service!

Carol
